AWARD CEREMONIES

When and where is the Award Ceremony?

Details will be posted on the website on the Tournament page.

Is attendance at the Award Ceremony required?

Nope, but it sure is fun!

FLU/ILLNESS

What if one or more of the team members gets sick and can’t come to the Tournament?

It’s okay! All team members are not required to attend the Tournament. If a team member cannot attend, it is up to the team (not the adults) to determine how they want to handle going to the Tournament without a team member. Team Managers can present the scenario to the team and ask how they’ll handle it. Team Managers cannot offer a solution. Team Managers (or other adults) cannot take on the role of the sick team member.

If a team member contributed to a challenge solution in any way, at any stage, he/she must be included on the team’s Declaration of Independence (but is not required to sign it).

INSTANT CHALLENGE

Do Rising Stars! teams participate in Instant Challenge?

Yes! BUT check with your Region for more details.

Who can watch the team’s Instant Challenge?

Only one Team Manager is allowed to accompany the team to the Instant Challenge area on Tournament Day.

Can I record the Instant Challenge?

No. Please refer to the Rules of the Road for an excellent description of the Instant Challenge procedures.

PAPERWORK

What do I put in the Membership name blank on the Media & Medical Release form?

On the Media Form, write your Team Name where it asks for Membership Name.

What if all of the team members can’t come to the Tournament?

All team members are not required to attend the Tournament. If a team member cannot attend, it is up to the team (not the adults) to determine how they want to handle going to the Tournament without a team member. If a team member contributed to a challenge solution in any way, at any stage, he/she must be included on the team’s Declaration of Independence (but is not required to sign it).

What forms do we need to bring to the Tournament?

  • 5 copies of the Tournament Data Form
  • 2 copies of the Declaration of Independence
  • 1 copies of the Media and Medical Release Forms for each team member and each team manager
  • 1 copy of the Expense Report (and receipts)
  • Team Sign (free-standing, team-created, about 2’x3′, includes: team name, number, level, and school)
  • Any Private Clarifications your team received

Does the team have to complete the required forms themselves?

The team is required to complete the Tournament Data Forms themselves, although, elementary teams can dictate to an adult, or an adult can type their words. It is considered interference  if Team Managers complete the Tournament Data Forms.

The Declaration of Independence, Expense Report and Photo & Medical Release forms can all be completed by the Team Manager.

TIME

Do teams need to stay at the Tournament all day?

No, but it’s fun to watch other teams and roam the parking lot to see all of the creativity that’s been happening the last few months. There are also games, food and activities .

Will the team do their Instant Challenge first or their Team Challenge?

Some teams will be scheduled to perform Instant Challenge first and some teams will have their Team Challenge Scheduled first.

How much time do teams have between their Instant Challenge and their Team Challenge?

Typically, teams have 60-90 minutes between the start times of their two performances BUT every Region is different. Please check the Tournament schedule.

When should we arrive?

  • Engineering Challenge report to weigh-in 60 minutes before your Team Challenge time.

TEAMS

Who will my team compete against at the Tournament?

Teams compete against other teams who have chosen the same Challenge and who are registered in the same age category. Teams are not divided by grade level within each competition level (Elementary, Middle, and Secondary). In other words, in the Elementary Level, fourth grade teams will compete against third graders and fifth graders. In the Middle Level, seventh grade teams will compete against sixth grade teams and eighth grade teams.

When does the team get their scores?

Teams should go back to their performance rooms about an hour after their performance to pick up their scores. Some head appraisers will text you when your scores are ready.

Instant Challenge final scores are not available until after the tournament. You will not be able to view the raw instant challenge scores.
